What’s up bloggers?! If you are tuning into this blog for the first time, welcome, you have made the right choice by clicking on this one. My name is Stephanie Trolice (aka Steph T.), I am 19 years old, but on December 30th, (the first day the team and I will be officially in Ghana) I will be turning 20 years old! I am a Sophomore attending Gordon College, Jersey born and raised, but currently residing in Trumbull CT. As of this moment, I am majoring in Psychology, hopefully with a concentration in Childhood Trauma, but eventually want to add a double with French! This missions trip will not be my first time out of the country, nor my first time in Ghana. However, I have been in love with this country and the continent of Africa for years now. I have always felt a strong call to missions, but for the longest time I was unsure of what that meant or looked like. I’ve grappled with the idea of short-term missions for the longest time because I don’t like the way the term hints at a sort of dominance that missionaries have. There seems to be this misconception floating around the church that says missionaries are more advanced Christians, or in some way closer to God than others. THIS IS FALSE! No role in the kingdom of God is greater than another. Missionaries are not superior to the rest of the world, let alone to the rest of the population of Christians. In the same way, the people missionaries minister to are in no way incapable of seeking out truth, faith or Jesus for themselves. I also want to make it known that missionaries cannot possibly fix or solve issues in the regions they are sent out to. However, our role for the Ghana missions trip is to empower those who are seeking out their faith and to offer guidance from our experiences to aid others in theirs. I also want to make it clear that this work can be done anywhere and everywhere including to our next door neighbor. But I believe God has placed this calling in our hearts specifically to see a glimpse of what He is doing in the global church, and allow us to bring our experiences back home in the USA. I never thought that missions would be a part of my life, but friends, it is apart of all of our lives one way or another. I hope you could join me in praying for our team’s departure, health, and hearts as we begin to prepare and come alongside some amazing girls. Thank you!
